What should I do with my battery during a Turn Down and Save event?

Absolutely nothing! Loop Optimise will manage your battery automatically to determine the best course of action during the event. Most likely, the battery will export electricity to the grid, but this may vary depending on your situation.

After the event, we'll calculate your savings and share the results with you (either by email or online). This may take a few days as we need to validate your savings with National Grid.

Want to do even more?

While your battery takes care of itself, there are additional steps you can take to maximise your impact. By reducing your electricity usage during the event, you can increase the amount of energy your battery can export to the grid. Here's how:

Top tips for reducing usage

  • Minimise the use of devices that generate heat:
    • For example, avoid using electric heating, electric ovens/hobs, air fryers, slow cookers, toasters, washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, immersion heaters, kettles, hair dryers, or bread makers.
  • Pause charging devices:
    • Avoid charging items, especially high-consumption devices like electric vehicles.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights:
    • Keep as many lights off as possible to save energy.
  • Shift your energy use:
    • Plan ahead by shifting high-energy activities outside of the event window. For example:
      • Heat your home before the event if you use electric heating.
      • Cook meals or do laundry before or after the event.
