What is Economy 7?

Economy 7 is a tariff that offers customers a cheaper rate during off-peak hours.

This is usually a 7-hour period during the night, from 12am- 7am in the winter, and 1am- 8am in the summer. It’s always best to check with your supplier as these times can vary.

Economy 7 is usually an electricity-only tariff for homes that don’t have easy access to gas, instead commonly using storage heaters.

On-peak rates are more expensive than on the equivalent standard tariffs, so households need to make the most of the off-peak hours by charging the storage heaters and using the washing machine and dishwasher overnight.
